Millwood School recognizes the vital role that technology plays in today’s world. We are committed to equipping our students with the necessary skills to enable them to utilize this technology throughout their school, college and adult careers.
We begin with the basic skills in keyboarding (all the students learn how to touch-type) and simple computer packages, and introduce the basics of Microsoft Word, Powerpoint and Excel. As students move through Middle School they cover the more advanced features of Microsoft Office, digital photography, the use of computer networks, and the internet. In terms of internet use, we develop our student’s media awareness and internet safety skills, to enable them to use this powerful tool in an effective and responsible way.
We go to great effort to be sure that our technology projects are always integrated with the curriculum taught in other classes. This gives our students a feeling of continuum, and reinforces the concept of applying the technology in a useful and educationally enlightening way. Our well equipped computer lab is also available for special projects that students may have in other classes.
We also use technology to teach, utilizing it wherever it appropriately enhances the learning experience. We have new language labs in our foreign language classrooms. The school subscribes to a number of library and internet services, including Unitedstreaming, a digital video-on-demand service which provides access to over 4,000 educational videos. These provide the latest benefits of technology to the students and faculty. |
