 | The Jack W. Miller, Jr. Library
The mission of the Jack W. Miller, Jr. Library is to ensure that students and staff are lifelong readers and effective users of ideas and information. The library curriculum tries to instruct the students in basic library skills, while also introducing literature at all levels. A great effort is made to integrate the library class work with the basic core curriculums, as well as with the other special curriculums. To help achieve this mission, the Millwood Library has a growing collection of approximately 6,000 books for our students and teachers to use and enjoy. The library also has audiovisual and professional materials available for the faculty to use. The library has two internet based research computers that also provide access to Athena, the library’s on-line catalog system.
Each class, grades JK-5, visits the library once a week for library skills instruction and checking out of materials. The Middle school students visit the library bi-monthly for instruction in research and information gathering skills. Students are always welcome to check out library materials anytime during the school day, and before and after school. The library hosts a service club, Library Service Club. This club helps with keeping the library neat and in good condition. The members help to shelve books, straighten shelves, decorate the library, create bulletin boards and displays, and assists with special library projects.

The Millwood Gift Book Program helps expand our library through the generous donation of books and other media by Millwood School families. Millwood family members, faculty, staff, and friends may donate a book in honor of their child, teacher, classmates, or family member, or to mark an anniversary, birthday, the birth of a child, or any other occasion. We maintain a collection of books that we would love to add to our library. We also welcome suggestions from you, if you have other books in mind. Your gift is recognized by a permanent book plate in the front of the book. Additionally, your child will be the first to check the book out from the library. Call the library to choose your book or for more information. |
