The Mike Hubbard Four-Year Merit Scholarship Program
Millwood School is proud to announce that it is accepting applications for the four-year $10,000 per year, Mike Hubbard Merit Scholarship for the 2025-2026 academic year. Current 8th grade students from Millwood School and surrounding schools are encouraged to apply.
Mike Hubbard is a retired maintenance manager with Philip Morris USA. Mike is a graduate of Richmond Professional Institute with an A.S. degree in Electrical Electronics. Over the years, Mike was involved in many activities both at work and away. He was a project leader for the original renovation of the Ronald McDonald House on Monument Ave. He taught electronics in the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Apprenticeship program and was an instructor in the Junior Achievement program. He served six years in the Virginia Air National Guard and was on an advisory board at John Tyler Community College for the School of Engineering Technology. Mike Hubbard has been associated with Millwood School for many years. His granddaughter, Megan Martin, came to Millwood for kindergarten in 2002. She completed eighth grade here in 2011.
Mike joined the Board of Trustees in 2009 and served for many years. He held the position of Secretary for our Board as well. Mike continues to support Millwood School and its mission. Mike and Claudia Hubbard spearheaded our Grandparents’ Group. This group usually met quarterly with special guests and speakers who addressed the interests and concerns of our grandparents. These meetings were always well attended, informative, and a time for grandparents to get to know each other. Our grandparents were able to visit their grandchildren in the classroom as well. Mike served in this position until the end of the academic year in 2019.
Mike Hubbard’s interest in and support of Millwood School is a driving force in its success.
Scholarships will be awarded to one current Millwood School rising 9th grader and one will be offered to a rising 9th grade applicant outside of Millwood School. Students not enrolled in Millwood School and wanting to apply for this scholarship must first go through the admission process.
This distinguished scholarship is intended for a student who shows exceptional academic promise and intentions. Competitive testing, school records, recommendations, and a personal interview will be part of the application process. Applications from rising 9th grade students will be accepted until January 10, 2025.
If you choose to accept the four-year scholarship, but leave before completing the full term without the administration’s consent, you acknowledge that you will be required to repay the four-year scholarship in full of $40,000.
