Thank you for your interest in Millwood School. Millwood School is a young, growing school, and welcomes applicants with appropriate degrees and experience. We are a JK-12, college preparatory, independent, co-ed day school.
 
Credentials 
Persons applying for teaching positions at Millwood should hold a Virginia teaching license and have at least two years of full-time paid teaching experience in the desired grade level. It is desirable for JK-2 applicants to have an Early Childhood endorsement, and for Middle and Upper School applicants to have subject area endorsement. Masters degrees are preferred.

Current Openings

Upper School Social Studies Teacher

Millwood School, an IB Middle Years Programme (MYP) and AP Capstone school, is seeking a passionate and dedicated Upper School Social Studies Teacher to join our faculty. This position is responsible for teaching grades 9-12 within the IB MYP framework and the AP Capstone Program, fostering inquiry-based learning, critical thinking, and a global perspective in students. The position will consist mainly of Upper School courses. Based on student scheduling needs and enrollment, middle school courses may be assigned on an as-needed basis.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan and deliver engaging Social Studies lessons aligned with the IB MYP and AP curriculum, incorporating interdisciplinary connections and real-world applications.
  • Develop students' critical thinking, research, and communication skills through inquiry-based learning.
  • Differentiate instruction to meet diverse learning needs and ensure student success.
  • Use a variety of assessment strategies to measure student growth and provide meaningful feedback.
  • Foster a positive and inclusive classroom environment that encourages student engagement and curiosity.
  • Actively contribute to the Millwood School community, including participation in extracurricular activities, school events, and student mentorship.
  • Communicate effectively with students, parents, and colleagues to support student progress.
     

Qualifications & Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in History, Social Studies, Education, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
  • Teaching certification required.
  • Experience teaching in an IB MYP school is preferred.
  • Experience with AP Capstone is preferred.
  • Strong understanding of inquiry-based learning and student-centered teaching approaches.
  • Passion for building relationships with students and engaging in the school community.
  • Ability to integrate technology and innovative teaching strategies into the classroom.

Part-Time IB MYP Physical & Health Education Teacher

Position Overview
Millwood School seeks a dynamic, flexible, and collaborative Part-Time Physical and Health Education Teacher to work with middle school students in the IB Middle Years Programme (MYP). The ideal candidate will inspire students to develop lifelong habits of wellness, physical literacy, and healthy decision-making while fostering teamwork, resilience, and a positive attitude toward physical activity. The candidate must hold a current teaching license and be a team-oriented educator who embraces the broader life of the school, contributing to school events, interdisciplinary initiatives, and the vibrant Millwood community. The candidate should also be open to coaching one or two middle school sports after school.

The successful candidate will design and deliver lessons aligned with IB MYP Physical and Health Education objectives, supporting students in developing skills, knowledge, and understanding consistent with the IB learner profile. Responsibilities:

  • Teach IB MYP Physical and Health Education to middle school students
  • Design and implement engaging lessons aligned with IB MYP philosophy, concepts, and assessment practices
  • Promote physical literacy, teamwork, and sportsmanship through a variety of activities and fitness experiences
  • Deliver age-appropriate health curriculum, including wellness, nutrition, mental health, and healthy decision-making
  • Maintain a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment for students of varying athletic abilities
  • Assess student progress using IB MYP criteria and provide meaningful feedback
  • Maintain curriculum documentation and materials
  • Collaborate with colleagues to support interdisciplinary learning and school initiatives
  • Contribute positively to the broader life of the school, including opportunities to get involved with extracurricular activities, coaching sports teams, school events, and community initiatives

Qualifications:

  • Current teaching license required
  • Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education, Health Education, or related field
  • Experience teaching middle school students, preferably in an IB or independent school setting
  • Familiarity with or willingness to learn IB MYP framework and assessment model
  • Strong classroom management, organizational, and communication skills
  • Ability to engage and motivate students with diverse abilities and interests

Part-Time Lower School STEM Teacher

Position Overview:

Millwood School is seeking an enthusiastic and innovative Part-Time Lower School STEM Teacher to join our dynamic faculty for the 2026–2027 school year. This position focuses on engaging students in hands-on, inquiry-based learning in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. The role may become full-time for candidates who are also qualified to teach in other areas.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and deliver developmentally appropriate STEM lessons for students in grades JK–5.
  • Foster curiosity, critical thinking, creativity, and collaboration through project-based learning.
  • Integrate technology and engineering design challenges into the curriculum.
  • Collaborate with lower school faculty to support cross-disciplinary initiatives and special events (e.g., STEM fairs or maker days).
  • Maintain a safe, organized, and engaging learning environment.
  • Communicate effectively with students, parents, and colleagues.
  • Participate in school-wide activities, meetings, and professional development.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in education, STEM, or a related field required; master’s degree preferred.
  • Teaching experience at the elementary and/or middle school level, ideally in STEM or math.
  • Strong understanding of best practices in STEM education and project-based learning.
  • Passion for working with children and a commitment to the school’s mission and values.
  • Strong classroom management and organizational skills.
  • Willingness to be flexible and collaborative as part of a small, collegial team.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Virginia teaching certification or eligibility.
  • Experience with coding, robotics, makerspace tools, or digital design platforms.
  • Familiarity with differentiated instruction and inquiry-based pedagogy.
