College Preparation

At Millwood School, it is our goal for 100 percent of graduates to go on to a four-year college or university. Our college preparatory program is made up of a variety of different programs and services that prepare students for the rigors of higher education.

College Counseling

Our college counselor is an expert in guiding and mentoring students as they prepare to choose the school that is their best personal fit. Parents also have the opportunity to work closely with our college counselor.
What is Naviance? Naviance is a comprehensive college and career readiness website that helps students align strengths and interests to post secondary goals, improves student outcomes and helps to connect learning to life. Naviance enables each student to have a truly personalized action plan of specific tasks necessary to achieve their goals.  It provides support and guidance to students, families and school staff to promote student achievement and post graduation success.  Naviance also supports increased collaboration and transparency between school counselors and their students.

Standardized Testing

The PSAT is administered in grades 9 through 11 in preparation for the SAT. Teachers guide and coach students as they prepare to take these very important exams. In addition, SAT Prep classes are offered for students who request them.

Personal Advisors

Students will be paired with an academic advisor who will guide and direct them throughout the upper school experience. This relationship will involve course selection, the monitoring of academic progress, and the pursuit of personal goals.

Academic Rigor

Millwood’s college preparatory courses are unprecedented in the Midlothian area. All academic work is directed toward preparation for success in the college admission process, as well as success with college-level work.
