How to get involved at Millwood

Parents are active members of the Millwood family. We not only welcome you to get involved, we encourage you to establish strong connections with our administrators, teachers, and fellow families. It is proven that strong parental involvement has a positive impact on student achievement.

The Millwood Parent Association provides an extensive list of opportunities for parents to remain connected throughout the school year. Whatever your talents or time constraints, we are sure to have an opportunity that suits your family. This is just a sampling of the opportunities available, and we are always open to hearing new ideas from you!

TEACHER APPRECIATION
This committee arranges birthday treats for our wonderful faculty and staff and seasonal snacks for the faculty workrooms. When support is needed, you can bring in baked goods, candy, snack trays, or drinks, or working parents can simply send these items in with their student.

HOSPITALITY
Parents can set up or bake for events such as the Annual Grandparents’ Coffee, Back to School Night, and monthly Faculty Meetings. You will be contacted, and asked to send in baked goods, fruit, candy, snack trays, or drinks. This is also an easy committee to help with if you are a working parent because you can simply send something in with your child!

PHOTOGRAPHY & YEARBOOK
Volunteers are needed to take pictures of school events for the Millwood yearbook and website. With volunteers from each grade, we will be able to cover most of the key events. Parents also work with the professional photographer for fall and spring school pictures and help create the yearbook during the school year for summer distribution.

CARING AND SHARING
When necessary, parents volunteer meals, transportation, etc. for Millwood families in time of need (i.e. emergencies, births, and deaths in family).

SPORTS BOOSTERS
Parents help us solicit corporate and family Sports Booster sponsors and coordinate the year-end sports awards ceremony to honor our athletes. Volunteers will also be needed to coordinate and work Paws' Place, the concession booth, during sporting events.

OUTDOOR CLASSROOM
The outdoor classroom is a favorite among students, but requires regular maintenance. You can help us maintain and add to this fun learning environment by planting, watering, weeding, and other gardening jobs.
